Peterborough CHC Grand Opening!

Yesterday marked a milestone in local health justice: the opening of the Peterborough Community Health Centre, a new chapter in accessible, community-focused care.

At its heart, a CHC isn’t just a clinic. It’s a place where primary care, prevention, wellness, social support, and community connection meet under one roof — especially for those who face barriers within traditional health systems.

The CHC model, long established across Ontario, brings together interprofessional teams, guided by local voices, and is rooted in principles of equity and accessibility.

We drew inspiration from Tommy Douglas, whose vision for health care as a public good reshaped Canada. He imagined a system not only to treat illness but to keep communities well — a spirit carried forward with this CHC, as Peterborough joins many Ontario communities in building a centre that works with people, not just for them.

Designed by Unity Design Studio, this new CHC brings that mission to life: a space for connection, collaboration, and culturally safe care, with a deep commitment to serving Indigenous communities, as well as individuals affected by addiction, mental health challenges, and systemic barriers to access.
