Peterborough Community Health Centre
Peterborough Community Health Centre | Peterborough, Ontario
Peterborough Community Health Centre brings primary care, traditional healing, advocacy and community programming together within a compact, adaptable setting. Designed around clarity, dignity and flexibility, the Centre balances openness with privacy and clinical function with human comfort, creating a place where many forms of care can coexist within a cohesive whole.
Many forms of care, one setting
Located across two floors of Peterborough Square, the 6,900-square-foot Centre transforms an existing commercial space into a purpose-designed environment for care, collaboration and community.
The plan establishes clear relationships between public, clinical, staff and community areas while allowing distinct models of care to operate alongside one another. Shared spaces support programming, group activities and collaboration, while confidential care areas provide privacy and discretion without feeling isolated.
Designed for dignity and welcome
Accessibility and cultural safety are embedded in how people move through and experience the Centre. Entry sequences, circulation, room placement, sightlines and wayfinding are carefully considered to create an environment that feels intuitive, welcoming and respectful.
Warm finishes and daylight soften the clinical setting, while acoustic separation protects private conversations and allows public, group and confidential activities to occur comfortably alongside one another. Together, these elements support both the practical demands of care and the dignity of the people receiving it.
Adaptable by design
Within a relatively small footprint, flexible program spaces allow the Centre to respond to changing services, programs and community needs over time.
Rather than treating each function as a separate destination, the design creates a shared framework that can accommodate change while maintaining clarity and connection across the Centre. This adaptability helps the space remain useful as models of care evolve.
Peterborough Community Health Centre demonstrates how thoughtful interior architecture can make a compact footprint feel generous, calm and connected. By balancing privacy with openness, flexibility with clarity, and clinical needs with human experience, the Centre creates a setting where care can be delivered with dignity and where people can feel they belong.
